Montreal, Canada: Technology and Poutine

Montreal is a beautiful city; I was there last week for the annual Technology Councils of North America (TecNA) summer conference. It’s also home to a semi-curious food dish: poutine. But more on that in a moment.

TecNA is a membership association for technology associations in the US and Canada. There’s about 50 member organizations from across North America; NEOSA has been involved since 1998.

Start Up Tech in the CLE: Still Thriving

I saw the PD article a couple of days ago about LaunchHouse and their pivot to a hardware accelerator. It’s exciting to see NASA Glenn get connected, incredibly bright and talented people work there and I’m certain they can bring a lot of value to LaunchHouse and their constituents.

And we definitely hope LaunchHouse is successful with this adjustment to their direction and focus. Anything that successfully helps launch new companies that grow, add workers and attract talent to the CLE is a good thing.

But I think it’s important to note that start-up software is alive and well in the CLE too.

Expanded Support for NEOSA Members (and the tech industry)

We send out a fair amount of communications to the market: emails, newsletters, tweets, LinkedIn Groups and so on. We know not everything is read by our members, and with some big changes coming to NEOSA, we wanted to expand our reach and share information in multiple ways.

We went through a strategic planning process with the NEOSA Board in 2013 and built a budget around significant changes based on that direction. Throughout 2014, we’ve been working on implementation, in addition to delivering on our current activities (Tech Week, events, advocacy and so forth).
