Association Health Plans
COSE and other small business advocacy groups are opposed to AHP legislation because of the negative impact it would have on small businesses. To view Frequently Asked Questions about AHPs, click here. Or to view COSE’s position paper on AHPs, click here.
- COSE is a member of the Small Business Coalition for Equitable Health Insurance, which is an organized group opposed to AHPs. Their site may be referenced HERE.
- A report highlighting Association Health Plan legislation found that it would have a detrimental impact on small employer premiums, especially for firms with high-cost workers, and would cause a significant number of small employers to drop coverage, thereby increasing the nation’s uninsured population by 1 million over 4 years (due to state-regulated premium increase and AHP participants dropping coverage when a member in their group gets sick). The executive summary may be found on pages 2-3 of the report by clicking HERE.
- An article that ran in Crains Cleveland Business in June highlighted COSE's views of AHPs. The article was co-written by COSE's Chairman, Keith Ashmus, and Tom Sudow, the Chairman of the Northeast Ohio Area Chambers of Commerce. To read the article, please click HERE.
