Paid Sick Leave

On May 18, 2009, Mandatory Paid Sick Leave (the so-called Healthy Families Act, H.R. 2460)  was reintroduced by U.S. Representative Rosa DeLauro (D-CT).  If passed, this legislation would require employers with 15+ employees to offer 7 days of paid sick leave to their staff.

While COSE and COSE members were instrumental in the removal of the Ohio Healthy Families Act from the November ballot in 2008, it was anticipated that the bill would be reintroduced in this Congress.  Now that it's back, it essential for COSE members to understand the impact this legislation can have on their business and work to defeat it.

While many of the provisions in this federal legislation mirror that of the November 2008 ballot issue, there are some differences.  This site will provide you with information on the issue, the impact it will have on employers and employees, and the different opportunities to get involved to defeat this legislation.
