How are you currently using social media?
I am currently using twitter primarily to announce happenings of genuine interest such as involvement in a charity event or to announce a scheduled presentation. I can’t say I could identify a particular success via twitter but haven’t had any failures either.
LinkedIn has been a good way to reconnect with business contacts with whom I’ve lost touch over the years and can’t hurt when it serves as another reminder to my links that I’m always ready for new projects. Participating in the Question/Answer area of LinkedIn has been interesting and beneficial from a professional growth standpoint.

I am currently experimenting with Google WAVE which is a limited pre Beta release of a new communication and collaboration tool designed to merge and streamline the use of the features of e-mail, instant messaging, wikis, and social networking.
