What was your “Ah Ha” moment that prompted the launch of your home business?
When evaluating my past professional experiences, I found myself reflecting on what parts of my jobs I really enjoyed and what roles and tasks I took on whether they were a part of my “job description” or not. I took those discoveries and partnered them with the organizing and systems thinking that are a part of my DNA and I realized there is a real and concrete way I can do what I love!
The real “Ah Ha” moment came when I allowed myself to put real value on my inherent gifts and talents.
Best thing you have done for your home business?
The best thing that I have done for my home business was to join COSE. It’s been a phenomenal resource in so many ways: the knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff, health care and benefit opportunities, networking events, and having the opportunity to present at the COSE small business conference.
Share how social media is used to promote your business?
Social media has been a cost effective way to share what I know and the services that organize my office space offers to a large audience. Offering tips on organization, time management, and efficient practices has been a great way to engage people at all levels of a business.
Social media has also provided yet another vehicle for networking with others – both locally and around the globe!
What is your secret to striking work/life balance?
To me, a primacy tenant of work/life balance is to strive to be as effective as I can be when I’m in “work m ode”. Being busy does not necessarily equate to being productive. Three very efficient hours “in the zone” can be as effective as 8 hours sitting at a desk and I’ve taught myself to really appreciate and value time management skills.
Part of the services that organize my office space offers to its clients is fostering a real understanding and appreciation for the true benefits of a full and meaningful life – both inside and outside of the office.
What is your biggest challenge in running a home business?
Summertime.
What advice would you have for those looking to start a home business?
Value your strengths and what you have to offer the business community and the world while at the same time realizing that you can’t do it all yourself. Surrounding yourself with a team of experts, cheerleaders, and supporters makes all the difference.
