Large User Energy Efficiency

Greater Cleveland PartnershipThe Greater Cleveland Partnership and COSE can help your business avoid forthcoming surcharges in 2011 and experiencing the additional cost benefits of energy efficiency.

GCP & COSE are committed to helping businesses of all sizes reduce their energy costs. COSE's Energy Solutions program has been designed to encourage the smart use of electricity by working with customers to help them reduce demand, save money and meet the energy efficiency standards in Senate Bill 221.  SB 221, a 2008 law that changed Ohio's energy regulations, mandates a 22.2% increase in energy efficiency across the state by 2025.

To help businesses become more efficient and avoid increased costs, we will assist you in determining qualifying energy conservation measures. Examples of this may include retrofitting your light fixtures or replacing your HVAC systems for newer, more energy efficient models.  Reporting these projects and the related energy efficiency and/or demand reduction may allow you to forego payment of certain charges generally included on your electric bill.

COSE Electric Savings Program

Energy Forum: Best Practices in Demand Side Management

What Can Your Business Do?

Mercantile Electric Customers (businesses that use 700,000+ kWh a year and/or have more than one facility) are eligible to take part in FirstEnergy's Self-Direct Program.  This program provides your business with two options:

  • Bypassing the FirstEnergy Demand Side Management and Energy Efficiency Rider (DSE2)
  • Securing a one-time cash rebate

In order to take advantage of these, you will need to demonstrate implementation of qualifying energy efficiency projects and complete the required paperwork. COSE will work with you to quantify savings and submit the proper paperwork to the Public Utilities Commission.

While the DSE2 surcharge will be a fairly small additional fee, it can add up to a significant additional cost for large mercantile customers.  For instance, if a business used 10,000,000 kWh annually, a surcharge of just $0.001 per kWh would add an additional $10,000 a year to your electric bills.  Investing in energy efficiency can help you avoid that surcharge, as well as lower your monthly utility bills and maintenance costs.
