Workforce

The needs for staffing in the tech industry in Northeast Ohio have varied significantly due to economic fluctuations n the last several years. However, there remains a gap between the supply of tech workers and the needs of the industry, As a result, NEOSA partnered with NorTech on several initiatives in the past few years.

Beginning in 2006, the IT Workforce Initiative was undertaken by NorTech, NEOSA, Lorain Community College and a host of other organizations. The initiative was undertaken to identify gaps between higher education institutions and their output of students and the skill needs of the region's tech companies and larger employers. The study was released in the spring of 2008 and can be found HERE.

In 2008, the state of Ohio launched Ohio Means Jobs
Ohio Means Jobs aggregates job openings from around the state and is searchable by location, industry, job category and other criteria.  Ohio Means Jobs can be found here.

More recently, NEOSA participates as a member of the Regional IT Engagement board, a grass roots effort led by tech entrepreneurs and IT executives to affect positive change within IT education.  RITE's three primary goals are:

  • Enhance work-based education through improved access to co-ops and internships;
  • Attract more students into IT education through direct outreach to high school and middle school students;
  • Align university curriculums more closely to the needs of the business community.
