An Opportunity for Growing Businesses

There was an important and exciting announcement made this morning in the Plain Dealer that will be rolled out over lunch at Cleveland City Hall today. Over the last several months, we have had the opportunity to work with and help participate in the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Initiative expansion to Cleveland as its seventh implementation city. In general, in each city, their approach has been to provide a strong curriculum for small business owners through Community Colleges to help build their capacity and their ability to growth their business to the next level.

If you are not at the table, you are probably on the menu

There’s really nothing sexy about a rate case at the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO).  Picture a room full of really smart people who spend most of their waking hours dealing with the technical details of the electric grid system operators, transmission charges, generation rates, allowable cost recovery and the like.  There are a lot of spreadsheets, thousands of pages of testimony and a ton of small print. These are not topics that are interesting to most people, until you see the results on your electricity bill effectively increasing your costs by more than 40 percent.  That was the result of AEP’s recent rate plan action and what caught the attention of lots of people – especially small business owners.
