Small businesses are the backbone of our economy. There are 31.7 small businesses in the United States and on average, small companies create 1.5 million jobs annually and account for 65% of new jobs created in the United States. These businesses are important, and they make a significant impact on our region. That’s why COSE has partnered with other organizations in the entrepreneurial ecosystem across Northeast Ohio to create a week entirely dedicated to celebrating, supporting, and enriching the small business community.
Northeast Ohio Small Business Week was created to connect small businesses at all stages, in all industries, and of all sizes to the resources, help, information, and contacts they need to not only emerge from this very challenging time, but to thrive well into the future. The week will begin with Small Business Saturday on November 30 and will conclude on Friday with an event featuring some of the finest from Cleveland’s food scene.
Every single event presented throughout the week will be free of charge to entrepreneurs. Our organization and our many partners literally exist to serve you, so it is our job to ensure programs are accessible to anyone and everyone. We hope you will join us – whether you are just thinking of starting a business or 20 years in – to access the help you need to get to the next level!
Join us for our Small Business Week events:
In 2010, American Express created Small Business Saturday® on the Saturday after Thanksgiving to encourage people to Shop Small and bring more holiday shopping to small businesses. For every dollar spent at a small business in the U.S., approximately 67 cents stays in the local community. So, when you Shop Small on Small Business Saturday—and all year long — you can help create a big impact.
COSE and many other organizations continue to be neighborhood champions in partnership with American Express. See what offers our members and partners are offering for Small Business Saturday and beyond!
Sunday, November 29: Social Media Sunday
Social Media Sunday is all about small businesses sharing their stories. We want to hear about your entrepreneurial journey and learn what keeps you going, even on the hardest days. The more you share, the more opportunities you have to win a Small Business Week prize pack. And the very best part is that as you share your story, you are providing inspiration and motivation to another entrepreneur.
Monday, November 30: Meeting up Monday
Bringing entrepreneurs together to learn, share, and connect is one of the most impactful things we can do in our region. Being around other small businesspeople who have walked in your shoes and can offer advice, encouragement and perspective is powerful. Meet-Ups have become a popular way for small businesses to connect with one another on a regular basis. And just because we can’t all be in the same room together; it doesn’t mean we can’t continue to find ways for small business owners to build new relationships.
Our Meet Up hosts and topics are:
We have dedicated two half-days to connecting you to content and information pertinent to your small business. The first day will feature a keynote presentation by Kurt Treu, The Growth Coach titled “Leadership Transformation: Your Most Powerful Resource.” Then throughout the next two days, we will offer breakout sessions from experts who can connect you to the tools and resources you need to navigate these challenging times and to continue to grow your business.
The COSE Annual Meeting and Big Party for Small Business have long been an opportunity for COSE leadership to talk about the work we are doing on behalf of the business community while simultaneously celebrating the amazing accomplishments of small businesses in our region. Even though we cannot get together in person to celebrate your perspective, insights and ideas are still extremely important to us. Join COSE Chair Kevin Johnson, managing partner at NexGen Interactive and Megan Kim, Executive Director for COSE for a brief presentation about the state of small business in our region and our priorities for 2021. Then we want to hear from all of you. Over lunch, we will place each of our attendees into small group discussions for you to tell us what YOU need the most and where OUR time should be focused. We may even send you a little lunch certificate to ensure you are well fed as you discuss your most pressing issues with your fellow small business owners.
Chef Douglas Katz and a few friends will be leading an online cooking demonstration, moderated by Amy Pappas of Chase the Flavor. Chase the Flavor is a food experience series where participants buy the ingredients and local chefs provide the recipe, instructions and community.
Special guests include Jamal-Akil Marshall and Kandice Marchant of Marchant Manor Cheese Shop. Marchant Manor Cheese is an Ohio artisanal cheesemaker specializing in soft, triple cream cheeses run by doctor-turned-cheesemaker, Kandice Marchant.
