Senator Matt Huffman has represented Ohio’s 12th District in the Ohio Senate since 2017. His district includes all of Allen, Champaign, Mercer and Shelby counties, as well as portions of Auglaize, Darke and Logan counties. Although only in his first term as a state senator, Huffman is no stranger to serving in elected office. Prior to his time as a senator, he served four terms in the Ohio House of Representatives with the last two in leadership positions, including being elected Speaker Pro Tempore, the second highest-ranking member.
Senator Huffman was born and raised in Lima, Ohio, where he has practiced law for the past 30 years at his family’s private practice firm. His career in public service began when he was elected to serve on Lima City Council in 1992 and served there until 2006. He was elected City Council President for his last seven years as a councilman. A tireless advocate of removing unnecessary government regulations, Senator Huffman was named a “Guardian of Small Business.” He currently serves as Vice-Chair of the Senate Government Oversight & Reform committee and sits on the Education, Energy & Public Utilities, and Judiciary committees.
The Senator resides in Lima with his family. He earned his degree in government from the University of Notre Dame in 1982 and his law degree from the University of Cincinnati School of Law in 1985.
