Joe Roman, GCP President and CEO, joined WTAM host Bill Wills this morning to discuss the latest in Cleveland news.

The first topic was the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative recently signed into law. The initiative has supported 5,449 projects that are helping to better the environment and economy. GCP and its partner organization, the Great Lakes Metro Chambers Coalition, has long advocated for the program’s reauthorization with annual incremental increases to its original funding level of $475 million per year.

Additionally the two discussed Ohio's new increase in minimum wage. As of Jan. 1, minimum wage for non-tipped Ohio employees increased 10 cents from $8.70 to $8.80 per hour. Tipped employees' base pay increased 5 cents from $4.35 to $4.40 an hour.

The pandemic continues to be a concern for businesses and individuals across the country. As organizations continue operating and begin to bring employees back to work, keeping everyone safe is a priority. Employees are encouraged to take the vaccine and further stop the spread of the virus. A group of local organizations are working together to provide employers with the resources needed to keep their employees safe through an initiative called the Coalition to Stop the Spread.

Finally, the two discussed the upcoming Internship Summit and the value of internship programs in companies of all sizes.
