Support Municipal Tax Reform: Take Action Today

COSE continues to support the passage of House Bill 5 (HB 5) based on its ability to simplify municipal tax reporting and improve the ability of small businesses to more easily comply. After more than a full year of hearings in Columbus, the Ohio General Assembly is creeping ever-so-closely to approving meaningful municipal tax reform. On Wednesday, November 19, COSE submitted written testimony to the Ohio Senate Ways & Means Committee in support of HB 5, urging elected officials to act.

Big Night For GOP, Real Impact Unclear

Last night went pretty much as expected for the Republicans as voters expressed their dissatisfaction with the President and set up for a couple of years of potential gridlock in Washington.  While the Republicans now hold majorities in both the House and the Senate, we should not necessarily expect to see massive policy shifts or a full reversal of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) or other policies already enacted by the President.

2014 Election Day: Tri-C, Cleveland Schools Ballot Measures Pass

Given the importance of preparing students for success in the classroom and beyond COSE formally supported the passage of two local levies, the Cleveland Metropolitan School District’s (CMSD) capital levy and Cuyahoga Community College’s (Tri-C) operating levy. Both Cuyahoga County and Cleveland voters voted in favor of these levies. Issue 4, CMSD, passed receiving 62% of the votes and Issue 6 (Tri-C) passed receiving 57% of the votes.

2014 Election Day: Incumbents Sweep Five Statewide Races

Ohio Republicans won all statewide offices (Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, State Auditor, State Treasurer) for the fifth time in the past six elections.

Leading up to Election Day, COSE asked the candidates’ campaigns for statewide offices the following questions: What initiatives have you led or supported in the past to create a more supportive environment for the success of small business owners? Are there specific small business initiatives that you will pursue moving forward?

2014 Election Day: Exclusive Teleconference on Congressional Midterm Results

The U.S. House of Representatives remained solidly in Republican hands after Tuesday's midterm election. The President now faces a unified Republican opposition on Capitol Hill for the remainder of his administration since the U.S. Senate flipped from Democratic control to Republican.  At the time of this publication, Republicans claimed 52 seats in the U.S. Senate and 242 seats on the U.S. House side.
